Recycling Program
The State of North Carolina Executive Order Number 8 set the precedence to require that all state agencies shall maximize their efforts to: (1) reduce the amount of solid waste they generate; (2) recycle material recoverable from solid waste; and (3) purchase and use products wholly or part from recycled material (reuse). The Facility Management Division assists state agencies located in state-owned buildings allocated to the Department of Administration to achieve the recycle efforts of the state and streamline the reduction of office waste. Provisions are made available for the recycling of office waste which includes: mixed office paper, glass, plastic and aluminum beverage containers, bagged shredded paper, newspapers, magazines, and books. General containers for the collection of office waste for recycling are provided under the Office Recycling Services Contract at no cost and are delivered to the state agency locations serviced as a part of this contract which is managed by the Facility Management Division Recycling Coordinator. Visit the What can be recycled as general office waste? for a complete listing of items collected for recycling. Other recyclable items generated by state agencies include telephone books, fluorescent lights and products containing mercury, cardboard, and printer cartridges. Facility Management Division provides information and resources to assist with recycling efforts for agencies. View the Other Recyclables link for additional information. Recycling signs are available for state agencies to print and place in the general recycling area to promote the office recycling program. The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources provides updated resources on their website to help state agencies identify recycling markets for their specific office waste needs.
